IF YOU LIKE DINOSAURS AND YOU LIKE DIVING, here’s one for you: Everything you wanted to know about  ichthyosaurs, ocean-swimming reptiles of the Mesozoic Era, some 248-65 million years ago.

Over the course of the 18th and 19th centuries, science had identified some 80 species of ichthyosaurs and related reptiles. Since 2000, they’ve added 20 to 30 more, and much more information.

SCIENCE WRITER TRACI WATSON discusses ichthyosaurs extensively in “How giant marine reptiles terrorized the ancient seas,” published in the journal Nature earlier this year.
